Indolanka :: Abbeydale Road

I have decided to eat my way around Abbeydale Road.  It's a tough job, but someone has to do it.  Indolanka was formerly known as East & West.  Last year it got refurbed and relaunched.  The menu is South Indian and Sri Lankan - not something I normally eat.  I ventured their with Cathy who is Social Sheffield's Food Editor (find her on Twitter here).

Now, I'm not going to promise to remember the names of all the dishes… because I never do.  It was bloody good though.  Small & unassuming places like this always seem to have the most authentic food.  It's also nice to be somewhere that loosely reminds me of the eating habits I fell into whilst backpacking.  Lots of local dishes accompanied by beer.

We ordered way too much food, but hey ho these things happen!

This is CAULIFLOWER!  We thought it was chicken at first.  Absolutely sublime.
This gigantic thing is a 'Dosa' - Sri Lankan pancake with filling
It was bloody massive.

Inside the dosa - chicken & potato curry goodness
And then my main… yep, the cauliflower and dosa were starters
Needless to say, as delicious as this was, I did not even nearly finish it

I rounded up the evening with a freshly made lassi.  The staff here are extremely doting and keen for you to enjoy the food - I almost felt like I was in someone's home trying their home cooking!

Indolanka aren't on the internet… they are under their old name!  Their address is 227 Abbeydale Road.  You'll find them right next to Talk Time, slap bang opposite Abbeydale hallmark Bragazzi's.  No need to book - just arrive early if you're dead set on eating here!
