Dr Seuss

I love Dr Seuss and thought I would share with you my favourite quote of his on this fine day:

'If things start happening, don't worry, don't stew, just go right along and you'll start happening too.'

Who Will Plan My Gap Year?

Philip Russell will plan your gap year.  I've always held a lot of admiration for people who set up and run their own businesses, even more so when their work is also their passion.  One of my own passions is travel, so when a friend directed me to Plan My Gap Year I was enthralled by their story.

Happy Friday #8

Today is a particularly happy Friday as my friend and previous travel buddy Dave and I are off to explore the Peak District with friends.  You've probably all heard this song on the radio recently, personally I love it.  Happy Friday!

Lessons Learned

My leaving date is drawing closer, it's not long now until I'll be leaving on a jet plane.  I've never travelled alone before, and when I've met people who have I've wondered quietly to myself what it might be like.  Now I'm going to find out!

Luckily for me, I have travelled for extended periods twice before so I do have a decent idea of what I'm getting myself into.  I've gained experience and knowledge and this will help me on my third adventure.  Here are some of the most important lessons I've learned whilst backpacking:

Happy Friday #7

This song reminds me of being on the beach on the Perhentian islands in Malaysia, with a cup of monkey juice (vanilla rum with a picture of an orangutan on the bottle) in one hand and my flip flops in the other.  It brings back very happy memories.

The Best Of Times... And The Worst

Mr Chris Stevens at Backpacker Banter recently wrote this post about his top ten worst travel experiences.  Whilst the best experiences are what make travelling worth while, the worst ones are what make great stories and what really interest your friends and family back home (although remember never to tell your parents the most hair raising ones until you're safely back on the soil of your homeland, they worry enough already).

Luckily I've never had the misfortune of taking a surf board to the face, although if I decide to pick the sport up in Geelong that may all change.  If previous experiences snowboarding are anything to go by, I'm not going to pick it up with any natural talent or flair ...

So anyhoo I decided I would charge right in and compile my own list of my top five worst travel experiences (I've picked five because I don't have ten... yet).  I think it's a great idea and I hope that other travel bloggers out there follow suit!

My Love Affair With Kuala Lumpur

Kuala Lumpur.  KL.  Malaysia, truly Asia.  I have stayed in this city three times so far.  Unusually I have never seen the caves just outside of the city that everyone visits.

There's something about this city that I just love.  On all three visits I have stayed on Jalan Sultan, it's my favourite street.  Twice I've stayed at The Original Backpackers Travellers Inn and once at the Monkee-Inn which is a few doors down (only because there were no beds available at the Travellers Inn).  All three visits have been fun and memorable, so in an ode to KL I am going to write about how my love for this city began and blossomed ...

The Big Day

Last Saturday I was lucky enough to be a part of Emily and Joe's beautiful wedding day.  The weekend was filled with friends, laughter and love and could not have been more perfect.  I'm so happy for the newlyweds!
